Goblin Greenpower cars are go!

Goblin Greenpower cars are go!

In their Robotics, Engineering & Technology Future Ready sessions Prep 6 have been building Goblin Greenpower kit cars. They recently completed the build and wanted to enjoy their maiden voyage! Mr Nock said, "We did encounter a number of problems that needed solving and although these caused a delay, this is what the Future Ready sessions are all about; drive belts needed tightening and nuts were not done up properly so fell off while driving! We now have half a term until race season begins, to design and make the bodywork and hone our driving skills!"

Business Entrepreneurs

Business Entrepreneurs

A report by Microsoft states that more than half of the current pupils will be doing jobs that haven't been invented yet, so the future for our children should be incredibly exciting! We need to give them the tools to become future ready and our unique Future Ready programme does just that! Friday afternoons are dedicated to Future Ready sessions, including: Finance & Entrepreneurship; Robotics, Engineering & Technology; Social Responsibility; Diversity & Inclusivity; Public Speaking and Adventure, Fitness & Wellness.

Prep 5 held The Royal Prep School’s inaugural Trading Day in December - a culmination of our Future Ready Unit on Finance and Entrepreneurship.  Pupils worked in pairs or on their own on the many crucial elements of running a successful business; from marketing to profit & loss.

"Everyone really enjoyed Trading Day. We learnt so much about how to manage money; some children donated their money to charity and some kept it to invest in future enterprises!” Ellie (Prep 5)

Sixth Form – Becoming Future Ready

Sixth Form – Becoming Future Ready

A key part of preparing our Sixth Form students for adult life is ensuring they develop the skills needed for life post education. All students participate in a wide range of personal and professional skills units; including components on health, well-being, personal awareness and communication. We also encourage Sixth Formers to be emotionally intelligent; our Service element focuses on leadership, respect, empathy and sensitivity to others. To broaden students’ outlook and help them become more rounded adults, a series of lectures are delivered by leading figures from every sphere of life. Teachers organise trips to enrich students’ academic experience and a comprehensive and dynamic careers programme helps prepare students for work and higher education.

Practically Ready

Practically Ready

The aim of our Future Ready programme is to ensure students are intellectually ready, practically and emotionally ready for life after school. Year 13 benefit from a carousel of practical Future Ready classes specially designed for them. Learning how to use domestic appliances effectively, exploring the best ways to safely store food to make it last longer and what was needed as staples for a student pantry from cupboard to fridge and freezer, plus planning a weekly shop and meal preparation. Students also have the opportunity to experiment with recipes to cook easy and well-balanced meals on a budget. Batch cooking and food hygiene were core to these sessions with meals ranging from chillis to bolognese and curries.

Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

With an increasing occurrence of global crises, it is critical that our children understand their role in making a positive difference in the world. At the Prep School, pupils develop a deep awareness of issues such as Fair Trade, Environmental matters, Rights and Responsibilities. For example, in their Future Ready Social Responsibility lessons, Prep 2 learn about nature and the importance of bees. Hugely important topics as we face the challenges of climate change.
