SLIDE OUT TO READ MORE
The Royal School provides a first class education in a vibrant and caring environment. Our Nursery and Prep School are located in a 23 acre site in Hindhead, just 15 miles south of Guildford near the A3 whilst our Senior School is located in the historic charming market town of Haslemere on a 26 acre site. We believe in the power of inspirational teaching to bring out the best in everyone. We deliver an extensive and exciting curriculum inside and outside of the classroom that successfully promotes high academic achievement and strong personal development.
MEET OUR HEAD
We want our pupils to be ready for life after school. Keeping up isn’t enough. You must be ahead of the curve. Learning, growing and anticipating change are key.
Open all year round, except for Bank Holidays and Christmas from 07:30 to 18:00, Monday to Fridays. The self-contained Early Years Department sits within the Prep School’s 23 acres of beautiful grounds and woodland which children explore each day.
Life's learning adventure starts with harnessing the enjoyment of learning. Through a supportive and caring community pupils develop the confidence to be themselves and follow their own passions. The uniqueness of each individual is not only valued, it is celebrated.
Education doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Lessons learnt at The Royal are as much about how we learn and what it takes to achieve a goal, they go beyond objectives on a board in the classroom. Outstanding pastoral care and an enriching curriculum in and outside the classroom is a powerful combination in pupils happiness and success.
The start of Year 12 is a transformative stage of education. We have expert post-16 teachers who work with their students to ensure a personalised A Level learning experience.
The Royal has a long history of welcoming UK boarders and expat families, as well as international students. Our inclusive and dynamic approach to boarding means Year 7 to Year 13 pupils can take advantage of our flexi, weekly or full-time boarding allowing them to develop their strengths and their sense of independence.
The Royal School is an exceptionally warm and friendly place and from your initial enquiry to the first day in school we are on hand to help and guide you.

What We Achieve
EXCELLENT VALUE ADDED
What We Deliver
Our History & Our Future
The original Royal Naval School was founded for the daughters and sisters of Naval and Marine Officers. From the outset the founders’ ambition was for the girls to become independent.
The Grove School
The co-ancestor of The Royal School, The Grove School, was founded and was, equally, a pioneer in girls’ education.
Our Royal Patron
On ascension to the throne in 1952, HM Queen Elizabeth II took on the role of Patron of The Royal Naval School and remained our Patron until her death in 2022.
The Princess Royal
HRH The Princess Royal inherited the Presidency from her uncle, Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma, in 1975 and remains a committed supporter of The Royal School, visiting on a regular basis and always providing a great deal of encouragement.
The Royal Naval School and The Grove School merged to form The Royal School. From the outset, the founders’ ambitions were for the pupils to become independent and responsible members of society and this remains true today.
Launch of Co-education
The Royal School welcomed boys and became a co-educational school. The aim of the school has always been to deliver a first class education in a vibrant and caring environment, where pupils become confident, successful and compassionate young people with qualities and qualifications that enable them to excel in their adult lives.
The Royal School joined United Learning which is a group of schools operating both in the independent and maintained sectors and which is, itself, a charitable trust dating back to the late 19th Century.
