The Sixth Form at The Royal School, is a vibrant and positive environment. In 2019 82.9% of all A Level results were at A*-C. With greater freedom and responsibility, you can enjoy studying your chosen subjects in small classes with a more adult approach to learning. Our strong pastoral care ensures a productive and rewarding experience at this crucial stage in your education.
As you make the step change from GCSEs to A Levels, our dedicated staff provide the support and understanding to adjust to the level of independent work required to maximise academic potential and exceed expectations. Encouragement comes in many ways from guidance about individual study and personal tutors through to our outstanding careers service.
The Sixth Form has its own social and boarding house, QEII, with study bedrooms for all, lecture theatre/home cinema and IT suite. Our personal, quiet study bedrooms provide an excellent platform for quality study and the opportunity to stay overnight on site up to twice a week free of charge (weeknights). Over the past two years exciting developments have taken place with a new gym installed and a café / common room created in the buildings right outside QEII. This Sixth Form experience is significantly different from anything students have experienced before and very similar to that of ‘university halls’ which many will be preparing to move on to.
As well as many academic opportunities, you will be encouraged to take part in sport, the arts, cultural and social activities, tours, lectures and trips. Our diverse extra-curricular programme ensures talents and interests are nurtured and provide the chance to socialise with other colleges.
At the beginning of the academic year, the whole Sixth Form enjoy a 2-day residential trip that encompasses team building, leadership and fun. The experience can include outdoor activities that take you out of your comfort zone and more cerebral activities that encourage decision making and discussion. After the Bonding Weekend students always return to Sixth Form more informed and inspired to commence their studies.
This is an exciting time for the whole school as we continue to shape our future. What we do well will remain constant – achieving excellent A Level results and our ambitious, confident, independent and adventurous students being offered places in their universities and careers of choice.
