All members of the Sixth Form participate in the Diamond Diploma; evidence of the inner drive and character needed to succeed both personally and professionally in the 21st century.
A Levels are at the heart of the Diploma; they remain the gold standard of post-16 education and are understood by universities and employers. These qualifications are enhanced by a student’s engagement with wider interests and passions - the Royal Co-Curricular Programme.
The Diamond Diploma is what makes our Sixth Form distinct; it offers opportunities and specific training to maximise potential, enabling students to gain independence, confidence and maturity in their thinking.
The five key elements of the Diploma are:
All students participate in a wide selection of personal and professional skills units; these include units on health, well-being, personal awareness and communication. Example units are: Influencing, Interviews, Negotiation, Mindfulness, Self-Management, Image Awareness, Self Defence, Etiquette, Public Speaking, DIY, First Aid, Well-being and Driver Awareness, Personal Finance.
At The Royal, we encourage students to be emotionally intelligent; our Service element focuses on leadership, respect, empathy and sensitivity to others. All Sixth Formers are made Prefects upon joining the Sixth Form as a mark of their maturity and greater responsibility. Example units of the diploma are: Peer mentoring, Officer Training, Duke of Edinburgh Award, OAP Concert and Tea Party, annual Charity Dinner, House meetings, Spring Ball committee membership, the termly Adopt-a-Teacher programme, being a Sacristan.
A series of lectures and tutorials are delivered by leading figures from every sphere of life; the lectures broaden students’ outlook and help them become more rounded adults. Recent contributors include Lord Professor Winston, Ann Widdecombe, The Rt Hon Baroness Cox and Hugh Bonneville. Example themes are: Human Rights, Sexual Health, ‘Your Future in Europe’ Paris Trip, Moving On, Holocaust Memorial, So you think you know about Drugs, Population Matters, eSafety.
Super-Curriculum – the activities and opportunities that take you above and beyond the standard curriculum. Whether it is our Elite Applications programme, Medical or Veterinary Application preparation, MOOCs, the EPQ or simply wider reading and discussion, Sixth Form students choose from opportunities provided by the academic enrichment programme. A dynamic Careers programme helps prepare students for the worlds of work and Higher Education. Our Sixth Formers display inner drive and determination by organising work experience and volunteering opportunities, including International placements. Our links with Young Enterprise enable students to develop their business acumen and the importance of team work.
