Katharine Fry

Background:

I have been the careers advisor here at The Royal School for around 8 years, having initially completed my postgrad in careers guidance in 2008.  I always knew I wanted to work with young people and ‘ fell’ into careers after completing a temporary role during my degree studies.

What work experiences led you to the role you are in today?

I spent many years previously working at a large FE & HE College, supporting thousands of pupils and managing hundreds of UCAS applications. This role gave me a depth of experience, however I always felt as though I didn’t have enough time to support everyone. My current role means I have the privilege of knowing and supporting all pupils from Y7 all the way to Y13.

What’s the most exciting project you’re working on right now? What makes it so interesting?

I am currently working on trying to achieve the Career Mark accreditation – national quality in careers standard. This is interesting for me as I have never managed an accreditation process before.

What do you love most about your job and why?

Seeing the happiness and excitement as pupils receive University offers and having their places confirmed come results day.

What is a fun fact no one knows about you?

I really love dancing!  I am not saying I am any good at dancing -but if there’s music and a dancefloor, I’m there!

Who inspires you?

My family and friends.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

I enjoy baking, I am not going to class that as a talent though– as my skills are a bit hit and miss!

What single item would you take on a deserted Island?

My coffee machine...maybe a solar powered one!

What’s your idea of a perfect day?

Shopping and lunch at Giggling Squid!
