Senior School Admissions

We always recommend visiting us in person and suggest an individual meeting with Mrs Pippa Smithson, Head, and a tour of the school. Seeing the Senior School ‘in action’ gives you the opportunity to observe the interaction between pupils and staff and to get a feel for The Royal’s affirmative approach to education.

Our main entry points are at Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. For Year 8-10 2021 entry please contact the Admissions Office on 01428 603052 or email for further information regarding the admission process.

Year 9 2023 entry

We encourage those who are considering a Year 9 entry to complete the entrance assessments for Year 7 and defer (see timeline below) – nearer the point of entry we will invite the applicant for an informal interview with the Head of Upper School and to supply school reports from Year 7 and Year 8.

Friday 20 November

Launch of the Virtual Welcome Activities – registered pupils can choose from a range of exciting activities and will receive instructions by post or email. Once completed, join us online to show off your talents and start getting to know others joining our Year 7.

Monday 30 November

Registration for The Royal School Year 7 2021 deadline. All school reports and Head’s references will be requested.

Friday 4 December

We have taken the decision to move our assessments online and these, combined with school reports, Head’s references and an interview with Mrs Smithson will form the basis of our offer to join The Royal School.

More information will be available shortly and please rest assured there will be no preparation required for these assessments. We are hoping assessments can be completed by Friday 4 December 2020.

Monday 7 – Wednesday 10 December

Scholarship assessments for Academic, Art, Music, Performance and Sport scholarships. Interviews with Mrs Smithson. These will take place on site if possible.

Week commencing Monday 14 December

Letter sent to all applicants confirming place in Year 7 and any scholarship awarded.
