Admissions Process

At The Royal School we aim to make the admissions process as friendly and relaxed as it can be.

ENTRANCE EXAM

Our Entrance Examination tests a candidate’s ability in English and Maths. There will also be a short, hand-written creative writing assessment that forms part of the English assessment. The assessments are based on the National Curriculum work that the pupils will have been doing in their current school. No special tutoring is required beyond this.

INTERVIEW

Candidates will be invited to a friendly, informal interview with a member of staff. This is an opportunity to find out more about your child, their wider interests, hobbies, and find out why they want to join The Royal School.

EXTRA TIME

Please note that if your child qualifies for extra time, you must inform us in advance of the day and provide proof. Proof may include a letter from your child’s current school or a relevant report.

ENTRY INTO OTHER YEAR GROUPS

We occasionally have spaces that become available in other year groups. Please contact the Admissions Team to check availability in the relevant year group before applying, email admissions@royal.surrey.sch.uk or call our Admissions Manager, Mrs Edie Carroll on T: +44 (0)1428 603051. Candidates applying outside of standard entry point at 11+ 13+ 16+ are required to sit an age-appropriate English and Mathematics paper, and will have an informal interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

As part of the admissions process, once your child is registered with us, we will contact their current school to request a confidential reference.
