JECKE WIEVER!
The German Karneval season has again come to The Royal School. This time, the pupils of Year 7 celebrated Weiberfastnacht. This is the day when, in the German tradition, it is the ladies who rule!! They invade the Mayor's office at 11 minutes past 11 o’clock in the morning, and they take a pair of scissors to the ties of any man foolish enough still to be wearing one! The whole town then erupts into a huge party, especially in Köln and Mainz. We were much kinder to the male members of Royal School staff! We learned the words associated with the festival, we looked at videos of the celebrations and made decorated face masks using the Karneval greetings 'Alaaf' and 'Helau'. We had a funny hat competition and enjoyed the traditional seasonal doughnuts, called 'Berliner'. The pupils learned their lesson well, so next year the male members of staff should stick to open necked shirts!
