Netball

U13A v Rodborough won 11 – 6

U13B v Rodborough won 14 – 3

On Tuesday 7 February the U13A team played netball against Rodborough. We started off well, both of the Lucys scoring some good goals.  Rodborough had very good defence so we had to be quick. The first half ended with a score of 6 – 4 to us.  In the next half we made some great interceptions and more great shots. We played really hard and it paid off and we won 11 – 6. Well played to all of the team and thank you Miss Macready and Miss Whitworth for taking us.  Report by Olivia Weller (Year 8).

U11 Netball Tournament

On Thursday 1 February the U11 netball team played in a tournament held at Edgeborough School. Even though it was a bitterly cold day we were all very excited to be taking part and representing our school to the best of our abilities.

We had a good warm up with Miss McIntosh and were ready to play the first of six matches which was against Hall Grove School.  It was a nervous start and although we had some good passes and interceptions by Dorothy, unfortunately we lost the match; the score was 2 – 4 to them. We had a 5 minute break and warmed ourselves up with some hot chocolate. Then after a quick chat with Miss Mac we were ready to play our next match against William Cobbett School.

We won the toss and chose first centre. We got off to a great start with some accurate shots by Ella and Becky.  We won this match 5 – 1. We had another break and some more much needed hot chocolate.  We continued to play well and kept fighting through the bitter wind during the next 4 matches. It was very tough to play in the cold and the wind and it was very hard to catch the ball because our hands were so cold.  At the end of the tournament we were exhausted and gathered together around the umpires table to listen to the results. We were delighted to have come fourth overall in the tournament! We were so proud. We went inside, had some well deserved match tea and sat by the fire to warm ourselves up.  Well done to everyone who played and persevered through the bitter cold.  MVP goes to Natalie for showing great fighting spirit!  Thank you to Miss Mac for teaching us and supporting us even though she was not feeling well and it was very, very cold that afternoon.

On behalf of all of the tournament girls we would like to present the other MVP award to Miss McIntosh!  Report by Portia Timmis.

U13 netball v St Edmund’s

Our U13B netball team played St Edmund’s on Wednesday 8 January. It was a very quick game, with lots of small errors being made by both teams who were very excited to be playing! For a few of the girls this was their first game representing The Royal School. The game was very evenly matched but a few too many errors each quarter meant that The Royal missed out on a win by only 3 goals! The final score was 10-13 to St Edmund’s. Well done to Paige Furlonge-Walker, Holly Mansfield and Polly Maiklem on their debut!
