Our approach yields impressive academic results: in 2011 league tables GCSE grades were best in the county and top A Level grades were double the national average. Moreover, The Royal School is in the top 2% nationally for value-added education.

We welcome children of widely varying ability. We recognise that every child is different and tailor our teaching methods to each pupil’s needs. Small class sizes allow us to offer individual attention and to create an environment where learning comes naturally.

Looking to the future

We aim to provide a rounded education that establishes a solid foundation for the future. Sixth Form students receive individual careers advice so they can make informed decisions about higher or further education and employment prospects. Our university admission results are excellent: in 2012 100% of students went on to higher or further education (this includes Art Foundation courses); 78% of students gained places at their first-choice university, with 57% attending one of the UK’s most prestigious institutions (Russell Group or 1994 Group). Our students are successful across a wide range of disciplines; in the Sciences from Neuroscience, Pharmacy and Animal Behaviour, to Electronic Engineering and Maths and in the Humanities from English and Politics, Law, and Modern Languages to Psychology, Business and Public Relations. Specialist preparation is available to students applying to Oxford or Cambridge.

While good exam results are essential, we maintain a healthy balance between academic progress and social development. A varied programme of extra-curricular activity caters for all interests and on-site facilities include an international standard sports pitch, recording and art studios, a music centre and an extensive library.

The Royal School offers an inspirational environment for every stage of your child’s education, from nursery to sixth form. Our boarding facilities provide a home from home for girls on a flexi, weekly or full board basis. We also offer the convenience of breakfast and supper clubs, supervised prep or occasional overnight stays for day pupils.
