Senior School
Careers Education and Guidance at The Royal School aims to give individual, positive support to each girl, enabling her to aspire and achieve.
Under the auspices of our qualified Careers Adviser, our careers programme is flexible and responsive, laying the foundations for sound decision-making in Year 9, as girls make their GCSE choices, encompassing work-related learning, self-awareness and career management skills as they progress, by Year 11, towards further decisions for Sixth Form and beyond.
To enrich our programme, we are a member school of The Independent Schools’ Careers Organisation (ISCO); we offer an optional Morrisby psychometric profile to girls in Year 11; we work closely with external organisations and receive valuable additional support from many Royal School parents.
Sixth Form
In the Sixth Form our programme of lectures, talks and tutorials reflects developments, as well as the solid ground rules, for success in the world of work and higher education. The programme benefits in particular from speakers from external organisations as well as school parents representing a wide variety of professional areas.
Our Careers Adviser works closely with the Sixth Form tutors, and individually with each girl, to ensure that she is able to develop and implement realistic career plans. Our approach is highly supportive, whilst ensuring that every girl takes ownership of her plans.
Preparation for higher education includes a visit to a UCAS convention, the “Centigrade” programme, a focused “UCAS Day” for girls in Lower Sixth, interview practice and 1:1 meetings.
A programme of specialist preparation is given to girls applying to Oxford or Cambridge.
